I’ve been tracking my habits the last 10 days. One of my habits was, to watch something when i eat. It’s not always a soap opera. It’s sometimes podcasts and sometimes mind numbing YouTube scrolls. I’ve restrained myself as much as I can from watching something when i eat for the last 10 days. Some successful days and some unsuccessfully. But here are my key observations that might help you realise that this small habit when undone can do much more than you realise.

I no longer feel the urge to see something when i eat

I don’t know what it is. But I’ve slowly started to like the quiet when i eat. I’ve come to realise that this is important. Our brains shouldn’t always be buzzing round the clock. It’s the small pockets on time where you eat lunch, Going on a walking stroll does your brain rest and maybe rejuvenate. Hearing a podcast, watching a soap opera just keeps your brain buzzing.

I’ve started liking the non buzzing.

I started appreciate things around me more

Not a screen in sight, I was forced to look at people, the food and was left alone with my thoughts. I caught myself looking at the people that I love and thinking and appreciating things in my head.

Brain numbness started fading

I had this clog because my brain was always occupied with something or the other. Work, church, friends and the list goes on. But these pockets where I simply do nothing helps in this clog slowly dying away.

Eating food faster

I’m a slow eater. But looking at the screen when i eat slowed me down even further especially taking an entire hour to finish my lunch break. Now, i finish eating it earlier and have spare time to chill
